The Gozo Museum of Archaeology Display Project stems directly from the objectives of Priority 4 (Regional Distinctiveness – Gozo Special Needs) of the Single Programming Document. The project, aims at upgrading the Gozo Museum of Archaeology. Apart from providing secure and state-of-the-art display cases for Gozo’s unique archaeological treasures, it will contribute to the development of a cultural tourism niche market and will attract more tourists to the island all the year round. For the first time ever, unique archaeological treasures unearthed during excavations at the Xagħra Stone Circle, will be exhibited permanently in Gozo. These artifacts which have been exhibited in many different cities including London, Florence, Prague and Amsterdam are of world importance to the understanding of prehistoric art. The project is being carried out by the Ministry for Gozo with the collaboration of Heritage Malta and will be completed early next year.
