NADUR
|
 Nadur lies upon the easternmost hill of Gozo and could be reached either from Victoria or directly from Mgarr Harbour. The baroque Parish Church dominates Nadur's skyline and is believed to be one of Gozo's best baroque architectural masterpieces. The church is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and is adorned by a sizeable village square with an old stone cross on the other end of the square. The village has a Maritime Museum with a lot of naval artifacts collected from the old Nadur trade of seafaring. Visiting the Kelinu Grima Maritime Museum is really worthwhile.
Nadur is also renowned for its enchanting countryside views, with its green valleys and peaceful bays of the likes of San Blas and Dahlet Qorrot.  Ramla Bay, the largest sandy beach of Gozo, is obviously the most popular bay on the island and could be accessed from Nadur. Dahlet Qorrot is a delightful small bay very popular with local fishermen. The unique boathouses in Dahlet Qorrot were often converted from the original caves and ledges underneath the cliffs. It is a wonderful place for all those who love the quite spot, or even to have a nice swim. Ta' Sopu Tower lies half way through Dahlet Qorrot and San Blas. As the village motto has it, Nadur is in itself a watch house for the island. There is another tower known as Kenuna Tower. This was built in 1848, and served as a telegraph link between Malta and Gozo and not as a fort. The new Maltese Garden at Kenuna makes this area a must-see for all visitors. From here one can enjoy one of the most magnificent views in the Maltese Islands.
The feast of the patron Saints Peter and Paul, "L-Imnarja" is celebrated on the 29th of June, which is also a National holiday. The feast's name seems to suggest that there is a possible connection with the beginning of summer. It is derived from the word luminaria (illumination), and has a deep relation with our traditions and folklore.
