MARSALFORN BAY & FISHING VILLAGE
Marsalforn bay lies between the villages of Xaghra and Zebbug and forms part of the locality of Zebbug. It is the most popular summer resort on the Island. In summer it throbs with life as hundreds of Gozitan and Maltese families who have a summer house in this bay, go to spend the whole season by the sea. Every day in summer, Gozitan families enjoy their old habit of strolling back and forth along the marina. In winter, the bay is pleasantly quite and only a few residents remain, most of them fishermen busy about repairing their boats and nets.

Marsalforn bay could be divided in three parts. Where the Marsalforn valley outflows in winter, forms in summer a pretty pebbly beach. A beautiful promenade lies to the left and to the side of this beach. Further to the right in front of the police station, the beach becomes quite sandy until further on, the small artificial port known as "Il-Menqa" gives shelter to the fishermen's boats. Marsalforn is by the way one of Gozo's three main fishing villages. The church dedicated to St. Paul has lost a lot of its picturesque prominence to progress but it still serves its original purposes with regular liturgical services. It was built on the recomendations of Bishop Pietro Pace who loved Marsalforn profoundly and even lived and bathed there each summer.

Marsalforn has several swimming and sunbathing including the afore mentioned sandy and pebbly beaches. Besides, the rocky area to the left of the bay up to Santa Marija Point, is a very populary swimming zone. The other side of the bay behind Il-Menqa up to Ghar Qawqla point offers equally good swimming and snorkelling sites.

Motor and sailing boats give the place a lively look in summer while one can opt for a boat cruise around Gozo or just to Comino island. It is also a base for diving enthusiasts, who can choose from a variety of diving schools and diving destinations. Apart from these leisure activities, Marsalforn is very well served with restaurants, bars, self catering apartments and hotels.
