THE NORTH CAVE
Photo of the North Cave The Cave was discovered during quarrying works in 1949. This is situated very close to Ggantija Temples in Xaghra and the quantity of Tarxien Phase (c.3600-2500 BC) material found in it suggests that the site could have been the Temples' rubbish pit during this particular period.

Prior to the Tarxien Phase it could have been a rock cut tomb as some ceramic sherds of the Ggantija scratched type (c.3600-3000 BC), together with fragments of human skull and some animal bones have also been retrieved.

USEFUL INFORMATION
How to go: A cave hewn in the Upper Coralline limestone lies to the north of the Ġgantija temples, Xagħra, just across the road from the modern gate of the complex.
