History of Gozo General Hospital
The first cornerstone of the Gozo General Hospital was laid by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 16th November 1967. The hospital was inaugurated by the Health Minister, Hon. Dr. Albert V. Hyzler and blessed by His Excellency Mons. Nicholas J. Cauchi, Bishop of Gozo, on Saturday, 31st May 1975. It was then called Craig Hospital.
On 18th February 1989, the first stone for the psychiatric section of the hospital (Ta’ l- Ibrag) was placed by Hon. Eddie Fenech Adami, Prime Minister and was inaugurated by him on 17th December 1994. The new building began to house amongst others the psychiatric and male geriatric wards.
The administration of the two buildings was later on amalgamated and the whole hospital was given the name of Gozo General Hospital
